Calling all emerging illustrators!

The team at Scotland Street Press are looking for an artist to illustrate our forthcoming children’s book, MY DAD BROUGHT BEAVERS BACK, by Adam Ramsay.

‍

The book – aimed 3–6-year-olds - will consist of 26 illustrations accompanying the rhyming, true story about how Adam’s parents reintroduced beavers to the Bamff estate in Perthshire (where the story takes place) - and played a wider role in their return across the UK; and explains how beavers help restore wetland ecosystems. 

Here is a short excerpt:

“There were beavers here once, along time in the past

With flat scaly tails, to help them swim fast,

And cosy fur coats, so that they didn’t freeze,

And big orange teeth, for cutting down trees.”

“With the trees they cut down they built dams across streams,

In their houses called lodges the beavers dreamt dreams.

Of dams and deep pools they could swim in at night,

Because beavers love swimming, but they’re scared of the light.”

We are keen to hear from artists who specialise in line drawings of animals, but we are open to other styles if you feel inspired.

The one-off fee for this project is £2,500.
